The Nikon 35-70mm f2.8 AF D is a cracking little lens.

It was Nikon's flagship standard zoom for professional photographers before the current 24-70mm f2.8 AF-S was introduced.

Introduced in the late 1980s it was made in two versions (the AF N and the AF D) over a span of almost 20 years. It's optically fantastic and extremely versatile with a fast fixed maximum aperture (f2.8).

Nikon finally discontinued it when its replacement, the 24-70mm f2.8 AF-S, was introduced.

Many were sad to see it go. Okay, the 24-70mm was wider but it was also significantly bigger and heavier. Nikon made a lot of noise about the new AF-S focussing system but in use this didn't make a tremendous difference.

Today the Nikon 35-70mm f2.8 sells secondhand for £200-£300. That's incredibly cheap for a pro-spec lens with a fixed f2.8 maximum aperture. And don't forget, unlike many of Nikon's cheaper zooms, it offers full frame coverage. If you're working on a budget it's definitely worth a look.
